Donovan Collins: A True Highway Hero

At Ascend, we know that our drivers are more than just professionals behind the wheel—they are the backbone of our communities, often the first to step up when someone is in need. Donovan Collins, a dedicated DTS driver out of Texas, proved just that when he acted with incredible bravery and selflessness to save a life on the road.

It was a rainy night, with road conditions that can make even the most familiar routes unpredictable. As Donovan made his way down the highway to his next stop, he suddenly noticed a shocking and dangerous scene—an overturned vehicle sitting motionless in the middle of the lane, its lights completely off.

Without hesitation, Donovan took immediate action. He quickly activated his hazard lights to warn oncoming traffic, safely parked his truck, and called 911. Realizing the urgency of the situation, he rushed to the vehicle, found the driver unconscious, and pulled him to safety—removing him from further harm. Knowing every second mattered, Donovan then performed CPR until emergency responders arrived, giving the injured driver the best possible chance of survival.

Thanks to Donovan’s quick thinking and selflessness, a life was saved that night. And despite the unexpected detour, he still ensured his customer’s delivery was made on time—a true testament to his professionalism, dedication, and the DTS culture of service.

Acts of heroism like this deserve recognition, which is why we are proud to submit Donovan’s story to the TCA Highway Angel program. This program honors truck drivers who go above and beyond to help others on the road, and there’s no doubt that Donovan embodies everything it stands for.
