Director of Pricing


The Director of Pricing is accountable for driving the strategic direction and tactical execution of the pricing and network functions, providing perspective and recommendations to Vice President of Corporate Development. This position will add value through a combination of hands-on execution and leadership to the pricing department staff including oversight of the day-to-day tactical activities within the team.
  • Build, implement, and manage value-driven, profitable network and pricing strategies across our entire portfolio of services and across all markets.
  • Review all pricing opportunities (RFP’s and RFQ’s) to ensure they align with our network strategy and profitability goals.
  • Analyze and remain current on all network (internal) and industry (external) market data to include rates, freight volumes and truck capacities.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales team to manage the entire pricing process from initial RFP through proposal development and monitor the results of each price change.
  • Recommends, manages, and implements strategic initiatives to drive profit improvement through management of pricing functions, including through special projects to foster data-enabled decision-making. 
  • Track, analyze, and report key metrics and value captured from network and pricing activities to Senior Management.
  • Organize meetings which collaborate with Sales, Operations, Logistics to review pricing and network strategies.
  • Remain current on all Ascend’s customer rates through annual bids and/or rate reviews
  • Negotiate rates with customers.
  • Exercise solid business judgment and integrate the costs, revenues, and other operational inputs for the pricing of new services and updating pricing strategy for existing services.
  • Works closely with a wide variety of functional areas across the organization including sales, marketing, revenue management, and finance, with a particular emphasis on establishing and maintaining a close relationship with the sales team.

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains direct report hires.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a transportation related role, particularly pricing, and pricing management.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Experience in pricing strategy for brokerage capacity is a plus
  • This position is remote, but Atlanta/Jackson/Nashville preferred

  • Strong technical acumen combined with a strategic orientation.
  • Experience in operations or sales functions within a transportation company.
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills with knowledge of pricing models and statistics.
  • Ability to deliver exceptional service through positive engagement and patience.

  • Able to promote a culture of trust and safety.
Education, Certifications, & License Requirement
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics or a related field is required.
